Herbs and their Benefits
This is a brief list of common herbs, mildly common and some not so common. I have on hand (and you might too!) and their benefits. I do have many others, if you are looking for a specific herb you do not see listed, please do not hesitate to reach out.
This is not an extensive list of benefits and uses, just a quick overview.
In your Kitchen...
Rosemary ~ Memory, Brain stimulating, Hair growth, facilitates blood flow, boosts immune system, Reduces inflammation and headache, combats anxiety and stress.
Thyme ~ Antimicrobial properties that can help fight infections, anti-inflammatory, alleviate coughs aid in reducing blood pressure, and antioxidants that can protect against cell damage.
Turmeric ~ Anti-inflammatory, improves joint pain, supports brain health, lowers risk of heart disease, fights free radicals, helps reduce depression symptoms.
Garlic ~ Boosts immune system, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Cayenne ~ Boosts metabolism, reduces inflammation, pain relief, supports heart health and improves digestion.
Ginger ~ Aids digestion, reduces nausea, alleviates pain associated with arthritis and menstrual cramps, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help protect against chronic diseases.
Sage ~ Helps protect cells from damage, supports brain function, lowers blood sugar and cholesterol levels, can help alleviate menstrual cramping and improve digestive health. Improvs oral and bone health.
Fennel ~ Low calorie rich in Vitamin C and amino acids, improved digestion, reduces inflammation, supports heart health, relieves indigestion, Helps with constipation and flatulence.
In your backyard...
Dandelion ~ Excellent source of vitamin A,C,K, Folate, Calcium and Potassium. Manages Blood sugar, Blood pressure and lowers cholesterol.
Red Clover ~ Rich in Vitamin C, B1, B3, Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium, helps hormone balance. Enhances skin, bone and heart health, Supports respiratory system.
Mullein ~ Helps with Ear infections, Bursitis, Chest infections, wound care. Can be used as a disinfectant for the skin.
Lavender ~ Supports sleep, reduces pain and inflammation, helps with mood and anxiety, relieves menstrual pain, Kills bacteria and viruses. Reduces colic symptoms.
Echinacea ~ Boosts immune system, relieves upper respiratory issues, Reduces infections, aids in pain relief, High in antioxidants,
Rose Petals ~ Helps with irritability, anger, headaches, migraines, Conjunctivitis and tonsillitis.
Hibiscus ~ Packed with antioxidants, helps lower blood pressure, improve blood fat levels, boosts liver health, could help promote weight loss.
Purple dead Nettle ~ Antibiotic, astringent for wound care, mild laxatives, assist with UTIs, immune boosting, soothes earaches, headaches and gut issues.
Please be responsible before foraging in your backyard. Only take what you need and be mindful of the wild creatures that rely on it as well. If you are new to eating weeds/plants, be sure to do your research and accurately identify what you are picking/harvesting. Some species of plant looks the same but can be poisonous. Ensure that you are harvesting the correct variety plant.
